Student Scholarships In the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology

At present, there are several established scholarships in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology. The primary goal of The Grand Destiny Campaign is to “substantially enhance the endowment funding available to those Penn State people--our students, faculty, and staff--who will help preserve our heritage and carry out our educational missions.”

"With state support accounting for about 20 percent of Penn State's total operating budget, the University vigorously seeks philanthropic support to meet academic needs for which public appropriations are inadequate or unavailable. Although the amount of private support received by Penn State has increased over the last few years, it continues to lag behind those of the Big Ten." (From Why Support at The Grand Destiny website)

Endowed support:

  • Helps the Department to recruit outstanding students who are talented and/or financially needy.

  • Rewards excellence. Endowments are a powerful tool that can be used to recruit and retain teachers and students of the highest caliber.

  • Allows faculty to pursue innovative teaching, research, and public service initiatives that ultimately improve the quality of life for citizens of the Commonwealth and nation

Outright Gift:

An outright gift is another, immediate means, to support the aims and goals of the department and to support the current needs of our schools and colleges.

Contact:

Support of these endowments, establishment of new ones or making an outright gift can be accomplished by contacting Steve Smith, Department Head.
