The Environment and Natural Resources Institute (ENRI)
The Environment and Natural Resources Institute (ENRI), directed by James Shortle (jss15@psu.edu), was created in January 2005 to champion, facilitate, and catalyze collaborative interdisciplinary research, education, and outreach activities addressing complex environmental and natural resource problems.
The Institute is:
- A central management structure for environmental research, education, and outreach in the College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS)
- A focal point for integrating environmental and natural resources research, education, and outreach in the College, across academic units, with Penn State
- Institutes of the Environment (PSIE) and other Penn State Institutes and Centers, and for engaging external stake holders
- A partnership between the CAS administration, academic units, faculty, and county-based extension educators to increase the visibility, effectiveness, and stature of CAS environmental and natural resources programs
- A core member of Penn State Institutes of the Environment
The goals are to promote and ensure collaborative environmental and natural resources research and education in high priority areas; and engage the College in environmental and natural resources problem-solving addressing the needs of citizens, communities, and government, particularly in Pennsylvania.
