Dr. Abdalla’s extension teaching and research
programs address environmental policy issues in
Pennsylvania
and the Mid-Atlantic region.
He also participates in projects
involving multi-disciplinary teams addressing national and
international environmental policy issues.
Recent research studies have
assessed water management institutions in
Pennsylvania; the implications of structural change in
the US
animal agriculture for environmental policy design, and farmlands’
impact on residential property values. His extension programs
provide knowledge about environmental issues and policies to diverse
audiences. Recent programs have focused on changing federal and
state water quality policies, land use issues and policies; and
strategies to address the external effects of a changing animal
agriculture sector.
Dr. Abdalla serves on
the Scientific and Technical Advisory Board to the US Environmental
Protection Agency’s Chesapeake Bay Program and recently chaired an
international group of environmental experts that helped prepare a
Farm Foundation report on the Future of Animal Agriculture in
North America.
Awards received by
Abdalla include the 2005 Outstanding Public Issues Education Award
from the Farm Foundation, the 2006 University Faculty Outreach Award
from Penn
State
University, and the 2007 Regional
Teamwork Award from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Water Quality Program.
