Research Dr.
Weaver's research focuses on microeconomic and quantitative analysis
of two aspects of the management and coordination of performance
and efficiency of economic systems.
Studies in Production Efficiency and Productivity Here
research has focused on the microeconomics of measuring and management
of efficiency, productivity, and value creation within chains and networks.
Most recently, studies have considered the setting where quality attributes
are jointly produced and their management is of value to the chain and/or
consumers (e.g. product safety, environmental impacts).
Studies in Markets and Prices The central thrust
of this research has been the assessment of the extent, transmission, and
market efficiency implications of price volatility across markets and chains.
Nationally competitive funding from the National Research Initiative/U.S.D.A.
and other sources has supported development of simulation models to evaluate
alternative mechanisms for off-setting risk within a supply chain. These
mechanisms include forward markets, contracting, insurance, and chain organization.
Teaching Dr. Weaver teaches in the area of Markets
and Prices at the upper class undergraduate and graduate levels. Courses
focus on the economics of market and chain function, performance, and failure;
analysis and forecasting of prices; management of performance.
Service Dr. Weaver has served as Senior Project Officer
at the National Academy of Sciences, National Research Council, Board on
Agriculture; long-term visiting scholar at I.N.R.A./Rennes and Toulouse
(France); Catholic University, Louvain-La Nerve (Belgium); Wageningen Agricultural
University (Netherlands). He has also traveled frequently to Africa as
a member of technical assistance teams. Most recently, his research was
recognized with the AAEA Award for Distinguished Extension Program.
