November 2004

Congratulations to Sue Confer, who won this year's Ella Reagle Staff Award!  Her award was presented at the college-wide staff meeting with the Dean, Monday, Nov. 1, 3-5 p.m., 101 ASI Building.

At the AAEA Annual Meeting, our Department won the award for the Outstanding Departmental Extension Website.  This was the first time the award was given.  Congratulations to the Extension faculty, and certainly to the IT group.

Courtney  Flint was awarded the Ph.D. best student paper award (by a Ph.D. candidate) from the ISSRM student paper awards committee who wrote:  "Given the high quality of all the articles submitted, you can truly feel proud of this accomplishment."

Alyssa Dodd Extension Associate, Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology is the Recent Recipient of Two Awards.

The College of Agricultural Sciences Staff Laureate Ambassador Award
This award honors a staff member or team who serves as a proactive liaison to external audiences by building relationships, sharing knowledge, and promoting the unit and the College of Agricultural Sciences.

The Penn State Cooperative Extension Director’s "Spirit Award for Outstanding State Specialist"
Spirit Awards recognize educators showing outstanding commitment to Extension and their community through their dedication, enthusiasm, and quality performance. The award was given to Alyssa May 4 at the County Extension Directors’ Leadership Institute.

Congratulations!

President Spanier has announced the conferral of the title of "Distinguished Professor" on Jim Shortle. This has been made in recognition of Jim's "exceptional record of teaching, research and service." 

A reception was held April 29, at the Nittany Lion Inn to honor the three recipients of this title.

May 2004

Congratulations!

Jim Beierlein has been selected as an exemplary teacher in using an inquiry learning approach. He is one of 12 faculty members from across the country to receive this recognition.  He will participate in the National Case Study of Learner-Centered Approaches in Colleges of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (all expenses paid) in Gainesville, FL on June 24-25, 2004.

 

April 2004

Congratulations!

Dave Abler has been selected as the winner of the 2004 Research Award from the Penn State Chapter of Gamma Sigma Delta. The award will be presented at the Spring Initiation and Awards Ceremony on April 7, 2004.

Jennison Kipp won the second place award in the 2004 College of Agriculture Sciences Research Exhibition in the social science division.  Her poster was titled "Estimating how residents of a coastal community value and make tradeoffs among quality-of-life features".

Jeff Hyde for being selected as the 2003 recipient of the College's Roy C. Buck Award for the best refereed article in the social or human sciences. 

Leif Jensen – Received the Gamma Sigma Delta Teaching Award

Carolyn Sachs has been selected by the Commission for Women at Penn State as a recipient of the 2004 Achieving Women Award.  The award recognizes Carolyn's outstanding contributions in research and teaching as a faculty member, her administrative leadership in Women's Studies, and her exceptional service to the campus and the larger community.
