Summary
The dairy markets are changing rapidly. Earlier this year the milk supply was growing rapidly and milk prices were depressed. Now there is a domestic shortage of nonfat dry milk, international prices are strong, corn and soybean prices are rising, and the milk futures for 2007 are strengthening. Milk producers should look at this opportunity for forward contracting.

February 2006

We have another national radio personality in our midst (Lou Moore was on NPR last year).  Rich Stedman has been invited to be a guest on NPR's "Talk of the Nation" on Thursday, February 2.  The program will begin at 2 p.m. Central Time and will be broadcast from Wausau, WI.  Rich will be in Wausau to participate in the broadcast.  The focus will be on the decline of hunting and the hunting tradition in the U.S.  This is the result of some of his research.  Our NPR station (WPSU-FM) doesn't carry "Talk of the Nation," but folks can tune in to the Wausau station at: http://www.wpr.org/

Congratulations to Martin Lenihan, who received one of this year's alumni association dissertation awards for his dissertation entitled, "State, Social Movement and Producer Perspectives on Multifunctional Agriculture in the Global Food Regime."  This is a prestigious award and he should be proud of his achievement.  We wish him the best as he works to complete his dissertation this year.  More on Martin's award:  http://aginfo.psu.edu/news/06January/AlumnAward.htm

Congratulations to Jonathon Clark and Sundar Shrestha!  They each received a 2006 College of Agricultural Sciences graduate research award.
