Steps for Applying for Admission 

1.  Complete the official Graduate School Application:

Applicants must complete Penn State's Graduate School application. Here is how to apply:

• Follow the procedures at the Graduate School Admissions and Program Information Portal and pay the application fee online using a credit card.  You can check the status of your application at the Graduate Application Status Inquiry page.  Application fee information can be found here with more information available on the Information for Prospective Students page.
   

• Transcript Request Form (PDF)
• For International Applicants Only:  Application for Visa Document (PDF)

3. Mail the following to:

• Two official transcripts from each college or university attended.
• Official report of GRE general test scores (verbal, quantitative, analytical). 
• Three letters of reference from persons familiar with your academic abilities and potential.
• A 1-2 page statement indicating areas of interest and reasons for desiring to pursue a graduate degree in rural sociology.
• Application for Visa Document (International Students Only) 
• An official report of  results of  the Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) if English is not your native language. 
  • A minimum score of 550 on the paper test or 213 on the computer-based test is required. 
  • Applicants who have received a degree from a U.S. university or a university in another English-speaking country are exempt from this requirement.
